The Lethbridge Regional Safety Committee grew to 18 members strong in 2008 and held five regular committee meetings and numerous sub and ad hoc meetings. Their membership has a cross representation consisting of Government agencies, trade associations, worker reps, and ACSA personnel.
Their NAOSH (ney osh) sub-committee had 400 people come out to hear a story told by Vaughn Webb about his workplace incident. This successful event occurred at three different venues and had large media coverage.
The LRSC took part in the 3rd Annual Career and Demo Days Trade Fair in Lethbridge. The ACSA van was on display, numerous ACSA promotional materials and course information packages were handed out to attendees. During the fair, committee members did safety checks on the interactive displays at the show by the other exhibitors.
The LRSC continues to promote and advertise the Lethbridge Home Building Association's safety initiative put forth by the RSC in 2007. This initiative states that all LHBA members have their COR or SECOR accreditation by the end of 2010.
In 2008, the Lethbridge committee together with the Lethbridge Home Builders' Association, created the Approved Worksite Program stemming from a health and safety concern over residential jobsite cleanliness.
This program has committee members inspecting selected residential jobsites while completing a safe jobsite checklist. Items found to be a safety concern were resolved and re-inspected. Safety concerns were discussed with trades, and information on ACSA courses were passed on to them.
If the site passes the checklist, then an approved jobsite poster is displayed on-site. The first inspections were performed on November 27th, 2008. The program is being improved as it moves forward and has now changed its name to the Inspected Worksite Program.
Congratulations Lethbridge for being this year’s “Regional Safety Committee of the Year”.
