Mission Statement
Promoting the aims, objectives and programs of the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) and the Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association (SCSA) within the construction industry in the Lloydminster area. Encouraging and assisting member and associate member companies to develop and maintain a proactive Health & Safety program we are the Lakeland (Lloydminster) Regional Safety Committee.
Scope Of Committee
Our committee has a diverse membership featuring voices from residential and commercial construction, heavy industry, retail and fuel sales, oilfield related industries, service industries, school boards, city government, non-profit groups and others. Members and associate members of the ACSA and SCSA and any other interested persons from the Lakeland Region are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate. Notice of meetings and meeting minutes will be circulated to known contacts in the Lakeland Region. If there is sufficient interest from outside of Lloydminster we may consider occasional or special meetings in these areas. Any interested persons from the Lakeland Region are welcome and encouraged to attend safety training conducted in Lloydminster.
Activities
Meetings are held in Lloydminster with a 15 to 30 minute education component starting at 11:30. This component is member driven, with topic requests submitted by members and knowledgeable people from within the requested industry delivering the information. Attendance at the whole meeting (which runs from 11:00 to 1:00 including lunch) is welcome, but attendees can also attend just the education component if they wish.
These sessions cover everything from head to toe, literally. We’ve had training from podiatrists regarding foot protection to presentations from suppliers on hard hats and all points in between. Both safety associations have discussed their respective audit documents, presentations have been made by government bodies such as WCB, OH&S, City of Lloydminster Fire Chief and others as well as non-profits such as the Men at Risk Program targeting the higher incidents of suicide and related behaviors in males in the construction and farming industries. New and existing members are welcome to attend and request topics of interest to them and their industry.
One of our key activities in the year is organizing the NAOSH week celebration each year. These activities have been in several different venues around the city including National Oilwell Varco, Lloydminster Honda and the Communiplex. Participants/sponsors have included the RCMP, Lloydminster and rural fire departments, St John Ambulance, Lloydminster Public School Division (school bus safety), ACSA, SCSA, City of Lloydminster Building dept., ATCO Electric, ATCO Gas, many different suppliers of safety products such as fall protection, fire safety, general safety products etc. Demonstrations have included the “Saw Stop”, RCMP rollover display and seat belt convincer, Fire Extinguisher Training by Fire Chief Todd Gustavson, Fall Protection by suppliers from Acklands Granger, ACSA Ride Along Program, Men at Risk Program and many, many others. We’re always looking for new ideas, venues, suppliers, displays and of course – volunteers. Any takes?
