Description: This is a one-day (OSSA Accredited) course for personnel who are required to enter and/or monitor entry into confined spaces.
Course Objectives:
· To identify requirements for working in or around confined spaces
· To review minimum legislated standards
· To describe the hazards associated with confined spaces
· To provide understanding of the methods used to control associated hazards
· To provide information relevant to worker entry
· To provide information relevant to monitoring worker entry
Pre-requisites: None, but WHMIS training is recommended.
Course Content:
· Legislated definitions of terms associated with confined spaces
· Hazard identification and assessment procedures, e.g., oxygen-deficient, flammable, or toxic atmospheres
· Confined Space Entry preparation – plan, permits, signage, entry log
· Hazard controls:
— Engineering (ventilation, isolation)
— Administrative (atmospheric testing, training, entry plans)
— Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
· Legislated definitions of confined space work and Codes of Practice
· Roles and Responsibilities of workers, management, supervisors, monitors
· Confined Space exercises
Scope of the course:
· Classroom presentation on minimum legislated standards
· Basic Respiratory Protective Equipment
· Atmospheric testing equipment requirements
· Review of Codes of Practices
· Discussion of participant needs for their work site
Note: This is not a course on Confined Space rescue.
Certification for Entry or Monitor is good for one-year only.
Re-Certification is required prior to the date of expiry.
