5200 Alberta Temporary Traffic Control Course (2 days)

Description: Alberta traffic control technicians in partnership with the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) have designed this two-day course. The course will be delivered throughout the province of Alberta by traffic control experts (contract trainers) selected by industry representatives in conjunction with the ACSA.

Course Objectives:

  • Provide skills and knowledge of temporary traffic control practices
  • Create a safer work zone
  • Establish consistent temporary traffic control procedures in Alberta
    Participants, upon completion of this course:

  • Learn to produce, coordinate and apply temporary traffic control plans
  • Learn the necessary skills to work towards being a traffic control technician/supervisor
    WHO SHOULD ATTEND? The target audience for this course is employees within your
    organization whom are involved in developing, assisting set up, or monitoring in the
    implementation of temporary traffic control plans.

    Certification: Valid for three years

    Quiz: Participants will be required to pass a quiz (80% or better) upon completion of the course. Those failing the quiz will be allowed one re-write within a ninety-day period. Failure of the re-write would require the individual to re-enroll in the two-day course.

    Re-certification: To re-certify, participants will have three options:

    Re-take the course
    Challenge the quiz, or
    Provide employer verification that they have been active as the temporary traffic control person in the industry for the past three years.

    This course will assist all parties involved in understanding and implementing temporary traffic control practices and procedures on construction work sites in the province of Alberta.

  • Prerequisites: Recommended

  • The ACSA Flagperson Train-the-Trainer course or have taken flagperson training with an approved agency.
  • Possess three years field experience in a role involving temporary traffic control planning on construction work sites.
