Description:

This one-day course is designed for employers, managers, and supervisors who are considering the implementation of a substance abuse prevention program in their organization.

Course Objectives:

To inform employers, managers, and supervisors how substance abuse affects the construction industry
To explain the benefits of taking action on substance abuse
To provide an overview of alcohol and drug abuse amongst working Canadians
To discuss how alcohol and drugs affect safety
To provide steps in developing a Substance Abuse Program
To assist Supervisors in recognizing and dealing effectively with drug and alcohol issues in the workplace

Goals and objectives of a substance abuse program
Formal written policy and procedural process
Communicating the policy
Pre-employment screenings
Defining use verses abuse
Overview of drug use amongst working Canadians
Supervisor Workshop – Roles and Responsibilities
Overview of the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace, Alcohol and Drug Guidelines, and Work Rule
